Lebanon, Serbia stress concern over spread of terrorism

Xinhua, July 23, 2015 Adjust font size:

Visiting Serbian Foreign Affairs Minister Ivica Dacic stressed Wednesday Serbia's concern over the "terrorist attacks in Lebanon," condemning "terrorism as a means to achieve political goals or any other aims."

"Serbia is confronting and fighting the terrorist organizations such as al-Nusra Front and the Islamic State (IS)," Dacic said in a press conference he held after talks with his Lebanese counterpart Gebran Bassil.

A number of young people from Kosovo, Albania or Bosniato have joined terrorist organizations, he said, adding that some of them have gained leadership positions with these groups.

Dacic expressed his country's readiness to sign deals with Lebanon to confront terrorism and to boost bilateral ties at all levels.

Serbia and Lebanon signed an agreement to cancel the entry visa between the two countries for the holders of special, diplomatic or service passports.

Bassil, for his part, stressed that "both Lebanon and Serbia sought to preserve diversity which should be safeguarded by letting minorities assume their roles in politics and in all fields."

He commended Serbia's participation in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), which "is ensuring peace and stability in South Lebanon." Endit
