UN Secretary-General Ban Ki- moon on Saturday condemned the terrorist attacks that killed more than 60 people in northeast Nigeria, and reiterated the UN's support for the Nigerian government in its fight against terrorism.
The terrorist attacks killed more than 60 people in the towns of Gombe and Damaturu in northeast Nigeria over the last two days, the secretary-general noted in a statement issued here by his spokesman.
"These heinous crimes came as the victims, along with Nigerians nationwide, were conducting Eid prayers, a sacred time for families and communities to come together," said the statement.
The incident took place in Damaturu city, capital of Nigeria's northeastern state of Yobe, as local residents gathered for prayers on Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan. Endite
