India, Myanmar hold first joint consultative commission meeting

Foreign ministers of India and Myanmar held their first Joint Consultative Commission (JCC) meeting on Thursday to promote bilateral ties.

Indian officials said both sides expressed satisfaction over the current state of bilateral ties while describing the relations as being in a "a new phase", which sees increased bilateral cooperation aimed at promoting inclusive growth and development.

The two countries also agreed to continue to contribute to peace, prosperity and stability in the region during the meeting between Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and her Myanmar counterpart U Wunna Maung Lwin.

Myanmar's political and economic reforms and its growth and rapid economic and technological transformation have led to commendable progress in furthering friendly ties between India and Myanmar, said a statement of the Indian External Affairs Ministry. Endi
