Tension rose again between India and Pakistan over the past few days as the troops exchanged fires along the Line of Control (LoC) and international border in Kashmir, one week after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Pakistan counterpart Nawaz Sharif agreed to renew dialogue.
At least one Indian woman was killed and several other people injured in Pakistan firing in Kashmir over the past two days, said local media Thursday.
Meanwhile, Indian government officials have been discussing measures to deal with the grave situation in Kashmir.
Indian National Security Advisor has spoken to Pakistan envoy in India Abdul Basit three times since Wednesday on the border situation, said Indian External Affairs Ministry officials.
Indian Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday called an urgent meeting with External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Defense Minister Manohar Parrikar to review the overall situation over what India called fresh ceasefire violations by Pakistan along the border in Kashmir, said Press Trust of India.
India has also summoned Pakistani envoy and lodged a strong protest with him over ceasefire violations.
"Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit was summoned to the Indian External Affairs Ministry in the national capital and the protest was lodged with him about ceasefire violations in which one woman was killed and six others injured," said official sources.
The latest tension between the two countries came a week after prime ministers of India and Pakistan met in Russia on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Ufa, trying to break the deadlock and deciding to re-engage with each other.
The two neighbors were back to a blame game Thursday over ceasefire violations with both sides lodging protests.
In Islamabad, the Pakistan Foreign Office summoned Indian High Commissioner and lodged a strong protest over "air space violation " by an alleged Indian "spy" drone near the Line of Control and " ceasefire violation."
Indian military has denied the Pakistani accusation about spy drone. However, local media quoted experts as saying that the downed drone could be a police surveillance copter used by Indian Punjab state against drug traffickers.
Indian and Pakistan border forces have been shelling each other 's outposts for two days.
Some villages in Jammu district of Indian-controlled Kashmir were shelled and four people were injured, a day after a woman was killed by firing from the Pakistani side, said local media. Endi
