UAE hails clinching of Iran nuclear deal as hope for better ties

Xinhua, July 15, 2015 Adjust font size:

United Arab Emirates (UAE) sent a congratulation Tuesday to Iranian president Hassan Rouhani, applauding clinching final nuclear deal in exchange for a gradual lifting of economic sanctions.

UAE president Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan expressed hope that the agreement will contribute to regional security and stability, UAE state news agency WAM reported.

Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, and Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, sent similar cables to the Iranian President.

Iran and the UAE are historically close trading partners and expect to expand bilateral economic ties once economic sanctions are fully lifted by the United Nations, the United States and the European Union.

Both parties were occasionally involved in diplomatic confrontations as the UAE claimed ownership of three disputed islands in Persian Gulf which belonged to Iran since 1971, the year the Gulf state of UAE was founded. Endit
