Volleyball World League Final to help prepare for Rio Olympics

Xinhua, July 14, 2015 Adjust font size:

The 2015 FIVB Men's Volleyball World League Final will be held in Rio de Janeiro from July 15-19 and will serve as the test event of the 2016 Summer Olympics.

After the first Rio Olympics test event - last year's Aquece Rio International Sailing Regatta - volleyball is next, with the World League Final being held at the Maracanazinho, the home of the sport in Brazil.

The event will kick off a series of 44 test events featuring 7,000 athletes that will take place as the Brazilian city gears up to host the Olympic Games.

The participants include current world champions Poland, the United States, Italy, Brazil, Serbia and France.

Brazil won eight World League titles between 2000 and 2010, but have yet to win gold in the four editions since. The U.S. goes into the competition as reigning champions, with the hosts aiming to improve on the silver medals that they have won in 2011, 2013 and 2014.

The event is organised by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) in partnership with the Brazilian Volleyball Confederation (CBV). The Rio 2016 Organizing Committee will work strictly in the operation of the competition area, which includes preparation of the court, public entertainment, doping tests and results technology. Endi
