Barcelona to host Mobile World Congress until 2023

Spain's northeastern city of Barcelona will host again the Mobile World Congress (MWC) until 2023, GSMA, the association that represents the interests of more than 800 mobile operators and 250 companies in the mobile ecosystem, reported on Tuesday.
The contract means an extension of five years to host the most important event of the mobile phone industry that will return to Barcelona in 2016 between Feb. 22 and 25.
GSMA executive director John Hoffman said "we are delighted to announce that Barcelona will continue to be the Mobile World Capital and will host the Mobile World Congress in the next eight years."
He said to have received a lot of support from the partners of the MWC and Mobile World Capital so they are excited to "go on building the success they achieved over the last years".
Barcelona has been hosting the MWC for 10 years. In 2015 it broke a record high in the number of attendants with 93,000 people from 200 different countries and regions and more than 2,000 exhibitors.
The MWC had an economic impact of around 436 million euros (481 million U.S. dollars) in Barcelona and its surroundings, while some 12,000 temporary jobs were specifically created during the 2015 edition.
At the MWC leading companies of the industry present their new products, company representatives meet at the event and exchange ideas on technologies, connectivity and mobility also reaching agreements on these issues. Endit
