Lugano joins Paraguay's Cerro Porteno

Xinhua, July 14, 2015 Adjust font size:

Former Uruguay captain Diego Lugano has joined Cerro Porteno from Sweden's BK Hacken, the Paraguayan club said on Monday.

No details were given of the deal but local media said the 34-year-old signed a one-year contract with the option of another year.

"Thanks for the welcome. I hope to repay you on the pitch. My commitment is 100%," Lugano said in a statement on Cerro Porteno's official website.

The announcement comes less than a week after Lugano parted ways with BK Hacken, having made just 11 appearances with the Gothenburg-based club.

Lugano was due to begin training with his new teammates in Paraguay's capital Asuncion on Tuesday. Endi
