Vietnamese policeman accused of stealing 154 batteries from impounded vehicles

Xinhua, July 14, 2015 Adjust font size:

Police in Vietnam's southern Kien Giang province have said one of their officers will be punished after 154 motorbikes temporarily held for traffic violations all had batteries stolen, local media reported Tuesday.

Colonel Bui Kim Dinh from the province's Hon Dat District said his department is taking disciplinary measures against "at least one officer" for violations related to impounded vehicles.

Earlier, some local residents complained that they did not find the batteries while receiving their motorbikes, mostly expensive ones, from the district police station.

Local newspaper Tuoi Tre (Youth) quoted an unnamed source as saying that the stolen batteries had been sold to a scrap material shop, and that police have retrieved only 50 of them. Endi
