The National Assembly of Cambodia on Monday adopted a draft law on Associations and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) despite a boycott from the opposition lawmakers and protests.

All 68 lawmakers from the ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP), including Prime Minister Hun Sen, approved the bill by raising hands, as the 55 lawmakers from the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) boycotted the session. (Cambodia-NGO Bill)

JAKARTA- -- Some 45 people had been killed and 53 others seriously injured in traffic accidents while on their way to home towns to celebrate Islamic festivities, police said here on Monday.

A total of 206 road accidents have been reported across the vast archipelago country as of Sunday, said Brig. General Agus Rianto, spokesman of the Indonesian national police. (Indonesia- Accident)

SINGAPORE -- Singapore and U.S. navies initiated a joint maritime warfare exercise at Changi Naval Base on Monday.

The 21st Singapore-U.S. Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) exercise will last until July 24, according to a press release by the government. (Singapore-U.S.-Exercise)

JAKARTA -- A senior official at Indonesia's disaster mitigation agency of BNPB said on Monday that contingency plans have been set to anticipate the worse from eruption of Raung volcano in East Java that has bern ensuing in the last two weeks.

"BNPB, BNPD and related institutions were now preparing measures to anticipate the worse from the eruption that include the erection of post commands and setting up evacuation route signs," Sutopo Purwo Nugroho told Xinhua by phone on Monday.( Indonesia-Eruption)

COLOMBO -- More than 60 political parties and over 100 independent groups who are contesting Sri Lanka's parliamentary elections next month handed over their nomination papers to the elections department on Monday as the accepting of nominations came to an end.

The main battle for a majority in parliament will be between the current ruling United National Party (UNP) led by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and opposition United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) who is yet to name a prime ministerial candidate. (Sri Lanka-Election) Endi
