DR Congo increases number of provinces from 11 to 26

Xinhua, July 13, 2015 Adjust font size:

Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) has increased the number of provinces from 11 to 26, Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Evariste Boshab Mabudj said on Sunday.

The new provinces were initially set to be unveiled on June 30, 2015, but there was a slight delay by the commission in charge of demarcating boundaries.

The deputy prime minister said there were plans to launch extraordinary sessions of parliaments of the new provinces.

"For the former Orientale Province and Equateur province, for example, the extraordinary sessions will take place between July 21 to 23," he said.

"Provinces carved out of Katanga and Kasai Oriental provinces will hold their extraordinary sessions between July 28 to 30, while those from Bandundu and Kasai Occidental will hold their sessions between Aug. 5 to 7," he affirmed.

Boshab said governments of these new provinces will be elected between July 27 to August 13, 2015. Endi
