Clashes kill 10 militants in northern Afghan province

Xinhua, July 10, 2015 Adjust font size:

Clashes between security forces and Taliban militants have claimed 10 lives of insurgents and injured eight others in Khawja Ghar district of Takhar province with Taluqan as its capital, 245 km north of Kabul, since Thursday, spokesman for provincial government Sunatullah Timor said Friday.

"A total of 10 militants have been killed and eight others injured since Thursday in Khawja Ghar district," Timor told Xinhua.

Five more security personnel have been injured in the clash which is still continuing, the official added.

The security forces evicted Taliban militants from Zardkamar area and advanced to take more areas, Timor said.

Meantime, Zabihullah Mujahid who claims to speak for the Taliban outfit in contact with media confirm the clash, insisting Taliban militants have been fighting to capture the district.

Clashes between Taliban militants and security forces for the control of Khawja Ghar and the neighboring Chardara and Dasht-e- Archi districts have been continuing over the past couple of weeks. Endi
