Writethru: Xi calls on BRICS to forge community of destiny for common prosperity

The BRICS countries should forge a community of destiny in a bid to strengthen the base of cooperation and achieve prosperity, Chinese President Xi Jinping said Thursday.

Xi made the remarks when delivering a speech at the seventh BRICS summit held in Ufa, capital of Russia's Republic of Bashkortostan.

The BRICS countries, namely Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, should forge a closer partnership with each member making use of complementary advantages in resources endowment and industrial structure and jointly expanding development space, he said.

In addition, Xi called on the BRICS nations to push forward the construction of the headquarters of the BRICS New Development Bank and an African regional center, so as to put them into use and achieve early results as soon as possible.

The five countries, which are located in four continents respectively and sit on both the northern and southern hemispheres, should also implement the BRICS Economic Partnership Strategy and dig new cooperation highlights, he added.

The Chinese president also urged the emerging-market bloc to maintain close coordination on major international issues, saying the BRICS countries will spare no efforts to advance common prosperity of developing countries.

He added that the five nations should enhance coordination and cooperation and safeguard common interests of emerging markets and developing countries regarding to major international issues, including the post-2015 development agenda and climate change.

Meanwhile, working out challenges and problems that developing countries, especially African countries and least-developed countries, are facing is the primary focus in guiding the post-2015 development agenda negotiations, he said.

On cooperation with other countries and international organizations, Xi said the BRICS countries should make full use of their unique geographical advantages in a bid to actively carry out dialogues and exchanges and share results of cooperation.

Xi called on the BRICS nations to strengthen solidarity and cooperation with other emerging markets and developing countries, so as to boost the power of the bloc and improve its representation and influence.

The Chinese president arrived in Ufa on Wednesday to attend the annual summits of BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
