Uganda defeats Mauritius in 2015 Africa Rugby Tier 1B tournament

Xinhua, July 8, 2015 Adjust font size:

Hosts Uganda on Wednesday claimed second game victory at the on-going 2015 Africa Rugby Tier 1B tournament in Kampala.

The Uganda Rugby Cranes beat Mauritius 35-11 in a game played at the Legends Rugby Club, Lugogo. After scoring more than four tries to pick a bonus point, Uganda go top of the Six Nations table standings with 10 points.

Mauritius who lost their opening match last Sunday to Senegal started off the match with a tight defensive approach. But after 5 minutes flanker Pius Ogeno took advantage from a defensive error to score the first goal. Uganda Rugby Cranes ended 14-3 in the first half and Ssebuliba and Scott Oluoch sealded the victory with the last two goals as they won 35-11.

"We should have won by a bigger margin, but the Mauritius team played tight," said Uganda's captain James Odongo.

The event, which is played on a round robin format, will come to an end on July 11. The team with the highest points will be upgraded to Rugby Africa Tier 1A next year. Endi
