China shoots down 3 golds, S. Korea pulls away on medal table

Chinese shooters collected three gold medals at the Gwangju Universiade but host South Korea turned out the runaway leader on medal table on Wednesday.
China won a total of 5 gold medals on Wednesday, while South Korea added 9 to enlarge the lead on medal table. ' South Korea tops the table with 28 gold medals, followed by China in the second place at 17 and Japan is third with 16.
Chen Kehan, a rapid pistol champion of China's National Games, fired 27 points to beat Russia's Nikita Sukhanov by an advantage of two points out eight shots to claim the title of the men's 25m rapid fire pistol.
"Chen Kehan is taking training with the provincial team usually when he is off classes in Guangzhou Sport University," said Chinese coach Zhang Jianwei.
"In preparation of international competitions, Chen Kehan and some other top shooters in school will be gathered to train with the national team in Beijing. I think this is working good for both athletes and competitions."
Chinese shooters also snatched the titles of women's 10m air pistol team and women's 50m rifle 3 positions team events.
Diver Zheng Shuangxue also became a double gold medalist at Gwangju Universiade after teammate Peng Jianfeng as she won the women's 3-meter springboard final. Earlier in the games, she also took the title of 1-meter springboard.
Lu Ying also won her second gold medal at the games as she clocked 57.83 seconds for the title of women's 100m butterfly. The silver medal was taken by Elena Diliddo of Italy at 58.29. Kata Listopadova of Slovakia finished third at 58.37.
Host South Korea took 4 golds from archery, one from badminton's mixed team event, one from women's 10-meter air pistol individual event and three from taekwondo for a total of 28 gold medals.
The United States ranks fifth after Russia with 12 gold medals, but is expected to climb up on the medal table on Thursday as there will be 11 athletics gold medals on stake. Endi
