Jankovic shocks Kvitova, Federer, Murray reaches last 16

Defending champion Petra Kvitova was shocked by Serbian veteran Jelena Jankovic on Center Court while seven-time champion Roger Federer and local hero Andy Murray advanced to the last 16 at the Wimbledon Championships here on Saturday.

Former No.1 Jankovic, who reached her last Grand Slam final seven years in New York, fought back from one set down to win 3-6, 7-5, 6-4.

"I cannot stop smiling. I'm really, really happy," the Serb said. "I was just happy to be playing and competing on grass. Grass is not my favorite surface and Petra plays so well on it. I think it's her favorite surface. It shows by winning two Wimbledon titles."

For the No. 28 seed Jankovic, it will be the fifth time she has reached the fourth round and sets up a meeting with former finalist, No. 12 seed Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland.

With Kvitova crashing out, there are only Serena Williams, Marian Sharapova, Caroline Wozniachi and Lucie Safarova left as the last remaining top 10 seeds.

Second seed Federer, 33, beat big-serving Sam Groth of Australia 6-4, 6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-2 in two hours and 16 minutes. He will face Roberto Bautista Agut for a place in the quarter-finals.

Groth hit a serve of 236.9 kilometers per hour, the second fastest ever at the tournament.

"He can stay in the match just by serving," said Federer. "But the only thing I really had to change was my returning. The service games I can control myself: what to do on second serves, what to do on first serves. That's the biggest effort for me when I play a big-server - understanding those patterns. I also needed to focus on my own serve and I did that well."

The 2013 winner Murray made the last 16 by beating Italy's Andreas Seppi 6-2, 6-2, 1-6, 1-6.

He called a medical time-out for treatment on his right shoulder after losing the first game of the fourth set. The third seed returned to the court to win six games in a row for the victory.

He will next play the 36-year-old Croatian Ivo Karlovic, who was the oldest man in 39 years to reach the last 16 with a win over 13th seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France.

Tomas Berdych, the 2010 runner-up and US Open champion Marin Cilic also advanced to the fourth round. Endi
