Chinese shot putter Gong settles for second in Paris meet

China's Gong Lijiao finished a disappointing second at the Paris Diamond League meeting with a way under-par performance in the women's shot put here Saturday evening.

The 26-year-old, a bronze medalist in the 2012 London Olympics as well as the 2009 and 2013 world championships, claimed 19.75 meters in her second attempt.

Her best results at the Stade de France was almost half a meter off her season best result of 20.23, which was gained in the Shanghai meeting in May.

Germany's Christina Schwanitz managed an astonishing 20.31 meters at her sixth and last attempt for the title with all her results coming no less than 19.68.

Michelle Carter of the United States was the third with a result of 19.37. Enditem
