Ukraine expects bumper harvest of grain, sugar in 2015

Xinhua, July 3, 2015 Adjust font size:

Ukrainian Agriculture Minister Olexiy Pavlenko said here on Friday that his country will have another bumper year for grain and sugar production in 2015.

"This year Ukraine will see not only good grain output, but also high sugar production," Pavlenko told the parliament.

Pointing that the vast majority of crops are in good condition after the sowing, the minister said that Ukraine this year is expected to reap about 60 million tons of grain.

Pavlenko added that the good harvest of beets will allow Ukraine to produce about 1.5 million tons of sugar in the next marketing year.

In the 2013-2014 marketing season, Ukraine produced 1.2 million tons of sugar. It is expected to increase the output to 1.7 million tons in the current marketing year.

In 2014, Ukraine had a record grain harvest of about 64 million tons. Endi
