Former president of the United States Bill Clinton is visiting Vietnam on the occasion of celebrating the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two country.

Speaking at the meeting with Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang here on Thursday, Clinton said the U.S. attaches importance to the relationship with Vietnam and will continue its assistance for the country in various sectors.

The Vietnamese president spoke highly of joint efforts to deal with war aftermaths, intensify cooperation in defense security and realize trade commitments.

On the same day, Clinton also met with General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong, who is scheduled to pay a visit to the U.S. in July.

This is the fifth visit of Bill Clinton to Vietnam. In July 1995, he announced the normalization of diplomatic ties between the two countries. Endi
