Ukraine's new car sales plunge 70 pct in January-June

Xinhua, July 2, 2015 Adjust font size:

Ukraine's new car sales plunged 70 percent year-on-year in the first half of 2015 to 17,203 units, the Ukravtoprom Analysis Group said in a report Thursday.

In June, 3,372 new cars were sold, compared with 6,221 units a year ago. June marked the 11th consecutive month of contraction on the annual basis, the report said.

Japan's Toyota was the most popular brand last month, taking a market share of 15 percent, followed by France's Renault and Ukraine's Zaz with 11.2 percent and 7.5 percent respectively, it said.

Ukraine's auto market has been severely hit by the ongoing crisis as the local currency has been depreciated and banks have curtailed car loan programs.

In 2014, a total of 97,020 new vehicles were sold in Ukraine, down 54.5 percent from the previous year. It was the worst performance of the country's car market in 12 years. Endi
