Namibian coach promises Zambia tough game in CHAN qualifier

Xinhua, July 2, 2015 Adjust font size:

Namibia coach Ronny Kanalelo said he will not allow Zambia to run over his team during the preliminary round return leg of a 2016 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier match, the Times of Zambia reported on Thursday.

The Namibia trainer, whose team enjoys a 2-1 slender lead from the first leg played in Windhoek, said his team was in Zambia to finish off the game and progress to the next round of the qualifiers.

"We are not comfortable with our 2-1 lead against Zambia especially that we are in their territory. We won't sit and let them throw punches. If they punch then we shall also hit back. I hope they have a revenge mentality because we want a tough game and we shall play on their motions," he was quoted as saying by the paper upon arrival at the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport.

He said his team was not in Zambia to give away their victory nor play a defensive game but wanted to finish what they started.

This will be the third meeting between the two teams in less than two months, with Namibia having an upper hand after winning two matches. The Brave Warriors beat Zambia 5-4 on post-match penalties during the regional Council for Southern African Football Associations (COSAFA) Cup before winning 2-1 in the first leg of the CHAN qualifiers.
