Xinhua summary of Asia-Pacific stocks news at 1100GMT, July 2

Tokyo stocks rose 0.95 percent amid a breather in risk aversion on Greece's debt crisis, and as firm U.S. data out overnight helped to drive down the yen against the U.S. dollar.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was up 193.18 points, from Wednesday at 20,522.50.

The turnover was 2,485.10 billion yen (about 20.15 billion U.S. dollars).

BEIJING -- Chinese shares closed lower on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 3.48 percent to finish at 3912.77 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index dipped 5.32 percent to close at 12924.19 points.

Losers outnumbered winners by 878 to 54 in Shanghai, and by 1289 to 80 in Shenzhen. More than 1,400 shares on the two bourses dived by the daily limit of 10 percent.

SEOUL -- Seoul shares ended higher on Thursday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) gained 9.44 points, or 0.45 percent, to 2,107.33 at the close. Trading volume stood at 559.47 million shares worth 6.95 trillion won (6. 18 billion U.S. dollars).

HONG KONG -- Taiwan's share prices closed up 0.04 percent on Thursday with the weighted index up 4.01 points at 9,379.24, according to news reaching here from Taipei.

Turnover totaled 84.54 billion new Taiwan dollars (about 2.74 billion U.S. dollars) during the trading session.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed up 32.29 points, or 0.12 percent to 26,282.32 points on Thursday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 26,135.62 and 26, 459.43. Turnover totaled 150.85 billion HK dollars (about 19.46 billion U.S. dollars).

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 0.04 percent higher on Thursday.

The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index increased by 3.16 points to 7578.31. The all-share index went up by 4.62 points, or 0.11 percent, to 4334.99.

Trading volume reached 686.80 million shares worth 7.60 billion pesos ( 168.61 million U.S. dollars).

SYDNEY -- Australia's market has lifted sharply following offshore rallies on optimism in Europe and positive data from the United States.

On Thursday, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index gained 1.52 percent to 5,599.8 points, while the broader All Ordinaries index lifted 1. 49 percent to 5,587.9 points.

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City bourse in south Vietnam, closed at 605.7 points on Thursday, up 14.2 points, or 2.4 percent, against the previous trading day's closing session.

About 136.673 million shares worth 2.248 trillion Vietnamese dong (VND) (103.76 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the southern HCM City Stock Exchange.

VN30-Index, the new benchmark index for the southern bourse, which tracks the 30 leading stocks by both market capitalization and liquidity, closed at 633.28 points, up 10.37 points, or 1.66 percent.

A total of 54.655 million shares worth 1.091 trillion VND (50. 35 million U.S. dollars) were traded on Thursday.

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX- Index, closed at 86.76 points on Thursday, up 1.51 points, or 1.77 percent, against the previous trading session.

A total of 45.265 million shares worth 566.880 billion Vietnamese dong (26.24 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange on Thursday, an increase of 12.47 percent in volume and 10.89 percent in value against the previous trading session.

DHAKA -- Bangladesh's DSE (Dhaka Stock Exchange) Broad Index closed Thursday at 4,572.59 points, down 10.52 points or about 0. 23 percent from Wednesday's finish.

Total turnover decreased to about 5.05 billion taka (about 64. 70 million U.S. dollars) on Thursday from about 5.91 billion taka (about 75.70 million U.S. dollars) on Tuesday.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended higher here on Thursday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,733.88 up 5.92 points or 0.34 percent, and the Emas was at 11,970.91 up 35.11 points or 0.29 percent.

Turnover declined to 1.46 billion shares valued at 1.85 billion ringgit Malaysia (489.42 million U.S. dollars), compared with 1.94 billion shares valued at 2.17 billion ringgit Malaysia (578.20 million U.S. dollars) on Wednesday.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks finished lower on Thursday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) down 3.30 points, or 0.10 percent, to close at 3,327.84.

A total of 907 million shares changed hands with turnover of 912 million Singapore dollars (680 million U.S. dollars).

JAKARTA -- Indonesian shares closed higher by 40.72 points, or 0.83 percent, to a level of 4,944.78 on Thursday.

Some 241,389 transactions were booked, involving 5.34 billion shares worth 5.02 trillion rupiah (about 376.32 million U.S. dollars).

MUMBAI -- Indian stocks closed lower on Thursday after a steady day.
