Tokyo shares ended the trading Tuesday higher after a big drop in the previous day as investors maintained optimism over Japan's economy, but woes in Greece for a possible default still shadow the market.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average jumped 125.78 points, or 0. 63 percent, higher from Monday to 20,235.73.

The turnover was about 2,743.4 billion yen (about 22.43 billion U.S. dollars).

BEIJING -- Chinese shares bounced back from early morning losses and closed sharply higher on Tuesday following a nightmarish fortnight.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index surged 5.53 percent to finish at 4,277.22 points. It fell more than five percent in the early morning to 3,847,88 points, extending losses from a peak of 5,178.19 points seen on June 12.

The Shenzhen Component Index gained 5.69 percent to close at 14, 337.97 points.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed up 283.05 points, or 1.09 percent to 26,250.03 points on Tuesday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 25,885.66 and 26, 470.44. Turnover totaled 155.87 billion HK dollars (about 20.11 billion U.S. dollars).

SEOUL -- Seoul shares ended higher on Tuesday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) gained 13.71 points, or 0.67 percent, to 2,074.20 at the close. Trading volume stood at 389.7 million shares worth 5.6 trillion won (5 billion U.S. dollars).

HONG KONG -- Taiwan's share prices closed up 0.94 percent on Tuesday with the weighted index up 86.92 points at 9,323.02, according to news reaching here from Taipei.

Turnover totaled 90.87 billion new Taiwan dollars (about 2.94 billion U.S. dollars) during the trading session.

SYDNEY -- Australian stocks finished firmer in a volatile day after strong rallies in Asian markets lifted the confidence of local investors.

The benchmark S&P/ASX200 index rallied 0.67 percent to 5,459 points, while the broader All Ordinaries index lifted 0.64 percent, to 5,451.2 points.

Australia's benchmark finished 1.08 percent higher overall for Australia's 2014/15 financial year that ended on Tuesday.

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 0.04 percent lower on Tuesday.

The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index decreased by 2.88 points to 7,564.50. The all-share index went down by 11.82 points, or 0.27 percent, to 4,319.59.

Trading volume reached 1.35 billion shares worth 10.68 billion pesos (236.28 million U.S. dollars).

VIENTIANE -- The Lao stock market finished on Tuesday down 2.35 percent against the previous trading day.

The Lao Securities Exchange composite index decreased by 32.68 points to 1,360.21. A total of 14,149 shares worth about 86 million Lao kip (about 11,000 U.S. dollars) changed hands at the stock market.

DHAKA -- Bangladesh's DSE (Dhaka Stock Exchange) Broad Index closed Tuesday at 4,583.11 points, up 51.12 points or about 1.13 percent from Sunday's finish.

Total turnover increased to about 5.91 billion taka (about 75. 70 million U.S. dollars) on Tuesday from about 4.28 billion taka ( about 54.91 million U.S. dollars) on Monday.

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX- Index, closed at 84.94 points on Tuesday, down 0.55 points, or 0. 64 percent, against the previous closing session.

A total of nearly 59.485 million shares worth some 709.335 billion Vietnamese dong (32.84 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange on Tuesday, an increase of 24.94 percent in volume and 18.14 percent in value against the previous closing session.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks finished higher on Tuesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) up 37.15 points, or 1.13 percent, to close at 3,317.33.

A total of 1.18 billion shares changed hands with turnover of 1. 25 billion Singapore dollars (932 million U.S. dollars).

JAKARTA -- Indonesian shares closed higher by 28.08 points, or 0.58 percent, to 4,910.66 on Tuesday.

Some 211,244 transactions were booked, involving 8.74 billion shares worth 5.93 trillion rupiah (about 444.79 million U.S. dollars).

MUMBAI -- Indian stocks closed higher on Tuesday after a day of volatility.

The benchmark S&P BSE Sensex closed at 27,780.83, 135.68 points or 0.49 percent up from previous close of 27,645.15.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended higher here on Tuesday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,706.64, up 14. 72 points or 0.86 percent, and the Emas was at 11,771.94, up 80.42 points or 0.68 percent.

Turnover increased to 1.75 billion shares valued at 2.25 billion ringgit Malaysia (596.03 million U.S. dollars), compared with 1.68 billion shares valued at 1.71 billion ringgit Malaysia ( 451.72 million U.S. dollars) on Monday.
