Uganda's team off for World University Games

Xinhua, June 30, 2015 Adjust font size:

Uganda's team of 43 athletes left on Monday for the 2015 World University Games slated for July 3-14 in Gwangju City, South Korea.

"I am going to give my best to try and win a medal. I know it will not be easy competing against some top players from other universities, but I have prepared well," said Shamim Bridget Bangi, Uganda's top badminton player who is a student at Ndejje University.

Patrick Ssebuliba, the National University Sports Federation Secretary, said although they have had challenges in getting money to send a bigger team, they are confident the small contingent will perform well.

Uganda will this year field athletes in basketball, athletics, badminton, tennis and swimming. Uganda will however miss the services of reigning 10,000m IAAF world junior champion Joshua Cheptegei who has withdrawn to travel for a race in the United States. Endi
