Nigeria FA denies abandoning U-23 national team

Xinhua, June 30, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has denied media report that it has abandoned the nation's U-23 national team, also known as the Dream Team VI.

It was strange for the report to claim that the U-23 team was seeking to qualify for the All Africa Games, when it had since secured a place in the Games, Ademola Olajire, the federation's spokesman, said in a statement reaching Xinhua on Monday.

The Nigerian team has been campaigning for a place in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio De Janeiro.

The federation's spokesperson said the football body had never shirked its responsibility of catering for any of the national teams.

He added that it was not true that the team had been training and playing its friendly games in Adidas kits, and that the officials were owed allowances.

Nigeria's U-23 national team will take on U-23 Congo in the final round, first leg qualifying match in southern city of Port Harcourt on July 19. Endi
