1st LD Writethru: UN chief UN chief slams deadly terrorist attack in Egypt

Xinhua, June 30, 2015 Adjust font size:

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki- moon condemned Monday the terrorist attack in Cairo, the Egyptian capital, earlier in the day that killed Egyptian Prosecutor General Hisham Barakat and injured a number of civilians.

The Secretary-General called for those responsible for the attack to be brought to justice, according to a statement released by Ban's spokesperson.

Barakat, 65, has been seriously wounded in the bomb attack and was taken to a hospital in Cairo where he got a sensitive surgery after which he breathed his last.

Nine other people were injured in the blast that targeted the country's top prosecutor.

The bombing came after Sinai-based Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis militant group, an affiliate of the Islamic State regional militant group, posted a video clip on Monday supposedly showing attacks in May that killed two judges and a prosecutor. Endite
