No case of infection with Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) was reported in South Korea on Monday for two straight days, with no death being added, the health ministry said.

MERS contagion cases totaled 182, making no change for two days in a row, according to the Ministry of Health and Welfare.

It marked the first time since May 25 when no MERS infection was reported for the second straight day. The first case was discovered on May 20. (S.Korea-MERS-Case)

ISLAMABAD -- The death toll from a heatwave in Pakistan's commercial center Karachi and parts of southern Sindh province has passed 1,000 over the past ten days, health officials said on Monday.

Nearly 900 died over the past one week only in Karachi, a city of around 20 million people, and more than 100 lost lives in interior Sindh. Majority of those died were in the age of 50 or above. Dozens of low-income laborers were also among the victims who go out for daily work in the sun, according to officials at the government-run hospitals. MANILA -- The Philippines has not decided to join the China- proposed Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), Philippine Finance Secretary Cesar Purisima said Monday.

Purisima, in a statement released by presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda, said the Philippine has until December to decide if it would join the AIIB or not.(The Philippines-AIIB-Decision)

WELLINGTON -- The New Zealand government on Monday praised the new Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank as it officially signed up to the China-led initiative.

Finance Minister Bill English, who attended the ceremony in Beijing, said the bank would address a gap in new infrastructure across Asia.

"New Zealand actively participated early in the negotiations. Our aim was to push for a well-run, transparent and broad-based multilateral institution. The 50 countries who signed today is testament to the final result," English said in a statement from his office.(New Zealand-AIIB-Praise) Endi
