Roundup: Afghan battles kill 10 including 7 insurgents, wounds 15 including 12 police

Afghan militancy and conflicts have claimed 10 lives including seven militants and injured 15 others including 12 policemen in the northern, southern and western region of the militancy-hit country since Thursday, officials said Friday.

In the latest of violent incident, 10 people including seven Taliban militants have been killed as clash erupted in Khawjaghar district of the northern Takhar province on Friday, district governor Mohammad Omar said.

"A group of militants attacked security checkpoints in Tashkotal area of Khawjaghar district today morning triggering gun battle which is still continuing and so far 10 people including seven insurgents and three police have been killed," Omar told Xinhua.

Another violent incident which happened in the southern Zabul province with Qalat as its capital 340 km south of the national capital Kabul city on Friday left three civilians injured as a mine planted by militants went off, provincial government spokesman Gul Islam Sayal said.

"A mine planted by militants on a road in Shahjoi district exploded today injuring three innocent civilians," Sayal told Xinhua.

Without giving more details, the official said that efforts are underway to identify and bring to justice those behind the bombing.

Moreover, a dozen police personnel sustained injuries as a rocket fired by anti-government militants slammed into a depot of ammunition in Nimroz province with Zaranj as its capital 790 km southwest of Kabul on Thursday evening, a local official said Friday.

"A rocket fired by militants struck an ammunition depot of police in Balouchi area on Dilaram road on Thursday evening injuring 12 policemen," the official told Xinhua but declined to be named.

Meantime, the Nimroz provincial police chief Dilawar Shah Dilawar confirmed the incident but didn't give details.

Militancy and violent incidents has been on constant rise since April 24 when Taliban militants launched their so-called annual spring offensive in Afghanistan. Endi
