New play of Harry Potter to stage in summer 2016

Xinhua, June 26, 2015 Adjust font size:

A new play of British writer J.K. Rowling's most popular work Harry Potter will debut in London next summer, the writer announced Friday.

The new play, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, a collaboration between Rowling and Jack Thorne, a famous British playwright, will tell the untold part of Harry's story, including content of the lives of Harry Potter's murdered parents that readers have been expecting for a long time.

Produced by Sonia Friedman Productions, Colin Callender's Playground Entertainment and Harry Potter Theatrical Productions, the new play will be directed by Jack Thorne and will be performed at the Palace Theater in the West End of London.

It said tickets will go on public sale this autumn. Details of the show will be revealed later in July.

J. K. Rowling on Friday said on Twitter that she made the announcement on Friday was because it was the day that her first story of Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, was published in Britain 18 years ago.

"I don't want to say too much more, because I don't want to spoil what I know will be a real treat for fans," she said, adding it is not a prequel.

She said she was confident that when audiences see the play they would agree that it was the only proper medium for the story, rather than a new novel. Enditem
