2nd LD Writethru: Putin sends condolence over former PM's death: Kremlin

Xinhua, June 26, 2015 Adjust font size:

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday sent condolence over the death of Yevgeny Primakov, who served as Russian prime minister from 1998 to 1999.

"Putin expressed his deep condolence to the families and friends of Primakov," the Kremlin said in a statement.

The Russian president said on many occasions that "Primakov was a statesman, a scientist and a politician, who left a rich heritage," Tass news agency quoted Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov as saying.

Peskov added that Putin and Primakov had worked together for a long time and knew each other well, and that they met about a month ago.

Primakov participated in the 1999 presidential campaign but exited later, while Putin, the prime minister and acting president at the time, joined the race at the beginning of 2000. Endi
