The 2015 IFSC (International Federation of Sport Climbing) World Cup kicked off in Haiyang, a coastal city in east China's Shandong province on Friday as Chinese Zhong Qixin competes for his third championship of the year.

Overall 138 athletes from 26 countries and regions are attending the annual event, including the world's top 10 and the best from China. They will compete in speed, boulder, and lead events in the 3-day event.

Zhong, the captain of the Chinese climbing team, has won crowns of men's speed in both Canada and Chongqing IFSC Climbing World Cup events in 2015.

"If Zhong wins in Haiyang again, the Chinese climbing team will make new records," said Luo Shen, an offical of China's General Administration of Sports.

Zhong said "I will try to perform as usual and enjoy the game." Endi
