Malgorzata Kidawa-Blonska: newly elected Polish Sejm Speaker

Malgorzata Kidawa-Blonska, former spokeswoman of Ewa Kopacz government, has been elected as the Speaker for the lower house of Polish Parliament, the Sejm, replacing Radoslaw Sikorski.

Kidawa-Blonska was born on May 5, 1957 in Warsaw. Graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy and Sociology of the University of Warsaw, her professional career involved film and culture. She was a film producer between 1994 and 2005.

She began work in the local authorities in the Council of the Capital City of Warsaw and was a member of the Culture Committee. She has been a member of the Parliament since 2005. She holds the office of vice president of the Deputies' Ethics Commission to the Presidium of the Polish Sejm and is a member of the Culture and Media Commission of the Sejm.

In 2010, she was a spokesperson in the presidential campaign of Bronislaw Komorowski and in the parliamentary elections in 2011 she acted as the spokesperson for the Election Committee of the Civic Platform.

As Secretary of State in the Ewa Kopacz government, she was also government spokeswoman, responsible for government relations with media.

She is married to director Jan Kidawa-Blonski. They have one son. Endit
