EU to hold first high-level human rights dialogue meeting with Cuba

Xinhua, June 25, 2015 Adjust font size:

The European Union (EU) will hold a first High-Level Human Rights Dialogue meeting with Cuba on Thursday, according to a press release issued here Wednesday by the European External Action Service.

The objective of this first meeting is to discuss the modalities for the pursuit of this dialogue, and to discuss basic human rights principles in the context of a number of bilateral and multilateral thematic areas.

The EU will be represented by the EU Special Representative on Human Rights Stavros Lambrinidis, and Cuba will be represented by the Director-General of the Cuban Ministry for Multilateral Issues and International Law of Foreign Affairs Pedro Nunez Mosquera.

During EU-Cuba formal political dialogue on April 22 this year, EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini and Foreign Minister of Cuba Bruno Rodriguez agreed on starting to work towards establishing a structured EU-Cuba Human Rights Dialogue.

"Human rights are an essential element of EU-Cuba relations and dialogue will help both parties to advance work in this area," said the press release. Endit
