Another Samsung washing machine explodes in Australia

Xinhua, June 24, 2015 Adjust font size:

A recalled model of a Samsung washing machine due to be repaired exploded and caught fire when the Australian owners continued to use it as they waited for it to be fixed late on Tuesday.

Two adults and two children were able to escape their house when the machine caught fire near the city of Newcastle in the state of New South Wales (NSW).

Fire and Rescue NSW said in a statement that they suffered from smoke inhalation and were taken to hospital. The laundry was destroyed while the rest of the house was significantly damaged by smoke.

The machine was one of six models which have been under recall since 2013 in Australia due to their sudden bursting into flames.

The fire brigade urged people not to continue using them while waiting for repairs.

"Firefighters are urging people that if you do have one of these washing machines that's subject to a recall notice, to stop using it, wait until a technician comes along and fixes it," a Fire and Rescue NSW spokesman said.

Earlier this month, NSW Fair Trading said 60,000 of the machines sold in Australia had been repaired, while 83,000 had not. Endi
