Xinhua, June 23, 2015 Adjust font size:

Algerian army troops overnight Monday killed two armed militants in coastal city of Azzefoun, a local media reported Tuesday.

Citing a local source, El Watan newspaper reported on its online website that the two militants were killed in an ambush in village of Tigounatine in coastal locality of Azzefoun, 60 km north of Tizi Ouzou and 120 km east of Algiers.

The source specified that two Kalashnikov machine guns were retrieved in the operation, noting that one of the two killed was a senior leader of a terrorist group activating in the area.

Despite significant improvement of security situation in Algeria, the government says a few militants affiliated to al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb and recently established IS affiliated group of Caliphate Soldiers are still taking refuge in the woods of central provinces of Boumerdes, Tizi Ouzou and Bouira, near the capital city of Algiers.
