Cambodia has arrested four people on the suspicion of trafficking nearly 55 kg of drugs, which could be worth up to 3 million U.S. dollars, a senior police officer said on Saturday.
Mok Chito, deputy supreme commissioner of the National Police, said the police arrested the four suspects on Tuesday night in Phnom Penh City and Stung Treng province bordering Laos after a three-month investigation.
He said the seized drugs included 38.17 kg of crystal methamphetamine, 16 kg of methamphetamine pills, and 345 grams of heroin, as well as some equipment for drug production.
"This is one of the largest drug crackdowns in Cambodia," he said in a press briefing on Saturday.
"The group smuggled the drugs into Cambodia from the Golden Triangle Area and Laos."
He said the suspects had confessed that they planned to sell some of the drugs in Cambodia and the rest would be sent to China' s Taiwan.
Cambodia has no death sentence under its law. A person who traffics more than 80 grams of drug will be facing life imprisonment. Endi
