Fresh clash in N. Afghanistan kills 5, wounds 5

Xinhua, June 20, 2015 Adjust font size:

Five militants were killed and five others injured as clash erupted in Chardara district of Kunduz province on Saturday, a local official said.

"A group of Taliban militants raided police checkpoints in some villages of Chardara district today morning triggering gun battle which left five insurgents killed and injured five others," governor of Chardara district Zalmai Farqooqi told reporters here.

Two security personnel were injured in the clash, the official added.

The official said security forces would spare no efforts in wiping out the militants from the area to ensure peace.

Taliban purported spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid, in contact with media, confirmed the clash but insisted that the militants have overrun two checkpoints, a claim rejected by Farooqi as baseless.

Chardara district has been the scene of violent conflicts between government forces and Taliban outfit over the past several months which have claimed scores of lives and forced hundreds of families to flee. Endi
