Myanmar to repatriate boat people after verification

Myanmar authorities will send back the remaining batch of "boat people" to their country of origin after completion of the verification process, a press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Saturday.
Under the verification process by Myanmar and Bangladeshi authorities, the remaining boat people included 13 persons.
The release said on June 8, a total of 150 persons among 200 boat people rescued by Myanmar navy on May 21 that was patrolling off the western coast of Maungtaw, western Rakhine state were deported to Bangladesh, their country of origin, after citizenship verification.
Investigation by the Myanmar government found that some of the boat people had fallen victim to human trafficking rings and crime syndicates after receiving offer of work in Thailand and Malaysia from illegal job brokers. Endi
