Brazil prepare Neymar defence after provisional ban

Xinhua, June 19, 2015 Adjust font size:

Neymar has received a provisional one-match ban after being sent off following Brazil's 1-0 loss to Colombia in the Copa America.

The Selecao captain was shown a straight red card after he kicked a ball at defender Pablo Armero and then clashed with striker Carlos Bacca after the final whistle of Wednesday's match.

He will miss Brazil's final group match against Venezuela on Sunday.

Neymar had already received a yellow card - his second for the tournament - for a handball in the first half.

Under Copa America rules, Neymar's two cautions during the group stage would have already ruled him out of the next match.

A straight red card also brings an automatic one-match ban, raising doubts about how South American football's governing body Conmebol will interpret its rules.

Brazil's football confederation have been given until Friday to present a defence for the Barcelona forward. Conmebol's disciplinary committee is expected to decide on a definitive penalty by Saturday. Endi
