Neymar handed out provisional match ban

Xinhua, June 19, 2015 Adjust font size:

Brazil's Neymar may face up to two match bans in the Copa America tournament after receiving two yellow cards in consecutive matches and being sent off against Colombia on Wednesday.

The South American Football Confederation's (CONMEBOL) Disciplinary Court have provisionally suspended the forward for one match which means he will not captain his team against Venezuela on Sunday according to Copa America's official website.

Local media have speculated that the Barcelona player may be forced to miss two matches - one for the two yellow cards and another for the red. A final decision regarding the severity of Neymar's punishment will be announced on Friday giving the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) 24 hours to put in an appeal.

Neymar's match against Colombia on Wednesday evening was a nightmare from start to finish not only because his team lost but also because of his performance.

The player received a warning in the first half for a deliberate hand ball and then he received a red card after the final whistle was blown for aggressively kicking the ball at Colombia's Armero provoking an aggressive confrontation with Colombia's defender Carlos Bacca who was also sent off.

These cards have been added to the yellow Neymar received in Brazil's first match of the tournament against Peru for wiping away the referee's magic spray with his hand. Endi
