British royal family members and political leaders on Thursday took part in the commemoration event of the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo at St Paul's Cathedral in London.

The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall, and other members of British royal family attended the event. Britain's Prime Minister David Cameron and Boris Johnson, Mayor of London, also joined the commemoration, according to local media.

It reported representatives of Britain's armed forces and all countries involved in the battle, and the descendants of people who fought in the battle were among the congregation.

Earlier on Wednesday, Prince Charles visited a key site of the battle with Duchess of Cornwall and unveiled a memorial in Belgium to those British soldiers who fought and died at Waterloo.

The Battle of Waterloo was fought on June 18, 1815. Around 180,000 men from across Europe took part in the battle, and thousands of Britons and allied troops died in the defeat of Napoleon's forces. Endit
