Visegrad Four chiefs of general staff assess Slovakia's V4 presidency

Xinhua, June 18, 2015 Adjust font size:

Chiefs of general staff from the Visegrad Four countries, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia, plus Ukraine are set to meet on Thursday and Friday.

They will meet in the town of Vysoke Tatry in northern Slovakia to assess the country's presidency of the V4 group, said Slovak Defense Ministry spokesperson Martina Ballekova.

Ballekova added that the year-long presidency under Slovakia's leadership was largely dedicated to preparations of an action plan for V4 military cooperation aimed at reflecting the current security situation in the region.

"The action plan along with a training strategy are set to provide joint activity in the preparation of the European Union combat group, which will be made up of V4-country troops and which is planned for 2019," said Ballekova.

On Friday, the Chief of General Staff of Ukraine Viktor Muzhenko will provide Ukraine's perspective with respect to the country's cooperation with the Visegrad Four.

Slovakia, which has presided over the group since July 2014, is set to pass the role on to the Czech Republic. Endit
