Xinhua, June 18, 2015 Adjust font size:

Uganda Rugby Union (URU) on Wednesday said it had signed a new coach for the country' s rugby team.

John Duncan, the South African born coach will take over the national team beginning Wednesday ahead of the return leg of the regional Elgon Cup against Kenya.

"We are happy to have an experienced coach join us," Ramsey Olinga, the Chief Exectuive Officer of URU told Xinhua in an interview.

Duncan from the Free State Cheetahs in South Africa replaces Joe Beukes who resigned early this month for personal reasons.

"Because of the understanding we have with Free State Cheetahs they decided to send us a replacement for Beukes," said Olinga.

The Union added that Duncan will take charge of the team during the 2015 Africa Rugby Tier 1B Tournament slated for July 3-11 in Kampala. The event will attract Senegal, Cote d'Ivoire, Madagascar, Mauritius, Botswana and hosts Uganda. Endi
