After several years of waiting, Sports Club Villa late on Tuesday qualified to represent Uganda in the 2016 CAF Confederations Cup when they beat KCCA FC in the final of the Uganda Cup.
SC Villa won 3-0 in a replay of the Cup final at the Mandela National Stadium Namboole.
The first game played on June 6 in the western Ugandan district of Ntungamo aborted after fans rushed onto the pitch disputing the manner the referee Robert Donny was handling the match.
"We are happy that SC Villa will be back playing continental football next year and also the regional Cecafa Kagame Club Championship," said the club coach Ibrahim Kirya after the match.
With the game handled by Kenyan referees, KCCA FC started looking bright but Michael Birungi missed a scoring chance in the first minute.
SC Villa then scored through Augustine Nsumba who perfectly finished off an Isaac Muleme' s curling free kick effort from the right.
Nsumba brushed the free kick that goal keeper Benjamin Ochan and his defenders failed to tame. Ochan had earlier saved Erisa Ssekisambu's penalty kick after 22 minutes. Two more goals from second half substitutes, Abdul Karim Kasule and Yesseri Waibi put SC Villa in the comfort zone. Tom Matisko later had a missed chance for KCCA FC. SC Villa have now won the Uganda Cup for nine times.
Club President Emmanuel Misagga said he was very happy with the players after they came second in the Uganda Premier League to SC Vipers.
"We deserved to win this trophy and we have made it," he said. Endi
