A senior prosecutor and a high rank police official have been detained as part of a criminal investigation launched by the Latvian Corruption Prevention Bureau, local media reported Wednesday.

Aiga Eiduka, a representative of the Latvian Prosecutor General's Office, informed that the anti-corruption bureau was probing several law enforcement officials for abuse of office powers, mishandling personal data and demanding a bribe in return for lifting an asset freeze.

The anti-corruption bureau's representative Laura Dusa said that two law enforcement officials and a private individual were detained as part of the on-going criminal investigation.

The detained law enforcement officials are Ugis Araks, the head of the Forensic Service Department of the Latvian State Police, and Vilnis Ulme, the head of the Prosecutor's Office for the Investigation of Financial and Economic Crimes, according to police information. Endit
