Kenyan president urges vigilance to defeat terrorism

Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday appealed to the citizens to remain vigilant as the country's security forces scale up their efforts to deal with terrorists.

Speaking at a Nairobi hospital when he visited Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldiers injured during a Al-Shabaab raid to a military camp in Lamu County last Sunday, Kenyatta said the country will not be intimidated by cowards who choose soft targets instead of fighting on the war front.

Kenyatta, who was in South Africa during the foiled attack, said the fact that Al-Shabaab has resulted to attacking soft targets means they are losing the war.

The KDF is part of the AU Mission to Somalia (AMISOM) forces that have been strategizing for ways of eliminating Al-Shabaab militants from Somalia. The soldiers are still continuing with efforts to stabilize security situation in the Horn of Africa nation.

Kenyatta called on Kenyans to stand united to defeat an enemy who seeks to impose a different code of life in the country.

Kenya blames Al-Shabaab for terror attacks, kidnappings of foreigners, and fears its tourist and business economy will be destroyed if it allows the insurgents to go on unchallenged.

Nairobi has also put security in key towns on a high alert following Kenya's military operations in Somalia, which sparked threats from the Al-Shabaab group that it will retaliate deep in Kenya. Endi
