The European Union officials are to meet with foreign ministers of Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Chad and Burkina Faso on Wednesday to discuss Sahel cooperation, according to a press release issued by the European Commission here on Tuesday.

The EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini and the Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management Christos Stylianides will attend the meeting, where "security challenges, development cooperation and the humanitarian situation in the Sahel region will be on the table."

Mogherini will present the EU's new Regional Action Plan for the Sahel which focuses on prevention and fight against radicalization, improvements in the lives of young people, migration, mobility and border management and the fight against trafficking and organized crime, said the press release.

It said the EU and its Member States have a solid engagement with the Sahel countries through its relief aid, development support and the three Common Security and Defense Policy missions in Niger and Mali.

The EU's comprehensive approach to security and development in the Sahel includes three Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) actions, that is the CSDP civilian missions of EUCAP Sahel Niger and EUCAP Sahel Mali, and the EU training mission in Mali (EUTM). Endit
