A total of six police personnel and eight militants were killed in an armed clash in northern Afghanistan's Kunduz province overnight Monday, police said on Tuesday.

"Unknown number of militants attacked security checkpoints in Sarak-e-Bala area of Chardara district midnight, triggering a six- hour clash. The exchange of fire left six policemen and eight Taliban killed," district police Chief Colonel Noorullah told Xinhua. (Afghanistan-Attack)

BANGKOK -- Thailand is speeding up the planned construction of industrial estates inside several special economic zones which share border with neighboring states, said a senior government official on Tuesday.

According to Kasemsant Jinnavaso, the undersecretary of the Thai Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the construction of the industrial estates to facilitate manufacturing factories for export goods will be sped up in those special economic zones including:

Tak (Mae Sot district) and Chiang Rai special economic zones in northern Thailand which share border with Myanmar.(Thailand- Industrial Estates)

WELLINGTON -- The New Zealand government on Tuesday welcomed an international report that says a peak in global energy-related emissions could be reached as early as 2020 -- although critics said the government had no plan to achieve a cut in emissions.

The report by the International Energy Agency (IEA) said world greenhouse gas emissions from energy production and use were double the level of greenhouse gas emissions from all other sources, and it suggested strategies to reduce them.(New Zealand- IEA-Emission)

TRINKOT, Afghanistan -- Two civilians were killed and 16 others injured as a roadside bomb struck two vehicles in the southern Uruzgan province on Tuesday, spokesman for provincial government Dost Mohammad Nayab said.

"A mine planted by militants struck two vehicles at the same time on a road in Jambarak Kotal of Deh Rawad district at around 1: 00 p.m. local time (0630 GMT), killing two civilians on the spot and injuring 16 others," Nayab told Xinhua. (Afghanistan-Roadside Bomb) Endi
