Taiwan's Q1 manufacturing revenue up 1.3 pct

Xinhua, June 16, 2015 Adjust font size:

The revenue of Taiwan's manufacturers in the first quarter of 2015 stood at 6.38 trillion New Taiwan dollars (206 billion U.S dollars), up 1.3 percent year on year, data from the island's economic authority showed on Tuesday.

By sector, the revenue of computer, electronics and optical products manufacturers grew 12 percent year on year to 2.19 trillion New Taiwan dollars, a record for the first quarter.

The economic authority attributed the growth mainly to updated smartphone models, an increase in orders, and smooth production of servers, industrial computers and PC peripherals.

As a result of falling global oil prices, the sales revenue of the chemical material industry dropped 10.9 percent year on year in the first quarter, while the revenue of petroleum and coal products manufacturers slumped 33.4 percent, the data showed. Endi
