Serbian president cancels trip to BiH amid dispute

Xinhua, June 16, 2015 Adjust font size:

Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic canceled his scheduled visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) amid dispute of a Bosnian arrested over a warrant from Serbia, BiH Presidency said on Monday.

The visit, scheduled on Tuesday, was canceled because three members of the Presidency failed to reach consensus on the issue, it said in a statement. BiH Presidency consists of a Serb, a Croat and a Bosniak.

Bakir Izetbegovic, the Muslim Bosniak member of the Presidency, earlier in the day requested the visit to be postponed.

The request was followed by the arrest in Switzerland of Naser Oric last week, a Bosniak, over a war crimes warrant from Serbia. Izetbegovic suggested the arrest was politically motivated.

Meanwhile, Mladen Ivanic, the Bosnian Serb member and the rotating Chairman of the BiH presidency, noted the cancellation of Nikolic's visit would cast shadow over bilateral relations between BiH and Serbia. Endit
